The history of the mine
Gánt is located in Fejér county, 24 kilometers north of Székesfehérvár. Once significant was a mining settlement, today it has become one of the important tourist destinations of Vértes. It was discovered in 1920 by mining engineer Jenő Balás the bauxite of the area. This was Hungary's first bauxite deposit known in Europe. It was opened in 1926 and operated until December 31, 1962.
The geological park
The open-air geological museum in Gánt is a fantastic place for those who want to relax. The mine, anyone can visit it during opening hours. You can walk along a nature trail. The educational trail consists of 13 stations, is 3.5 km long and can be walked comfortably in 1-1.5 hours. The information boards can be used to gain insight into the area into its geohistorical past, what minerals are found on the site. Can be found in the mine area is the Bauxite Mining Exhibition.
