The history of the castle
The L'Huillier-Coburg Castle is located in Edelény in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. The French baron Jean-François L'Huillier started building the castle in 1716, but he died before the construction was completed. completed by his wife Marie-Madeleine de Saint-Croix in 1730. It later became the property of Ludmilla and István Esterházy, at which time significant renovations were carried out. Ferenc Lieb was commissioned to paint the six rooms of the castle, at which time the connected rococo murals that made the building famous were completed.
Guided tour and exhibitions
We can take part in a one-and-a-half-hour tour, which starts with a 23-minute 3D, costumed feature film. The film was directed by Géza M. Tóth, with the participation of actors Andrea Rost, Antal Cserna and Bálint Antal. From the story, we get to know the owners, Ludmilla Forgách and Count István Esterházy, Ludmilla's second husband. Ferenc Lieb also plays a role in the film, who tells how his days were spent in the castle and we can see how the paintings were made. After the short film, the painted rooms in the film can be seen live, and with the help of the exhibition guide, they can get interesting information about the objects on display and the history of the castle.
