HUNGARY Somogyvámos Puszta Tower

The 800-year-old medieval church ruin

Somogyvámos Puszta Tower

Temple ruin in the field

On the outskirts of Somogyvámos, among the golden grain fields, there is a medieval church ruin. The Pusztatorony was probably built in the 12th century based on archaeological excavations, in late Romanesque, early Gothic style. Somogyvámosár was already inhabited in the Middle Ages. The past centuries have left their mark on the church, but the tower, part of the sanctuary and the western wall have remained to this day. Its most interesting feature is the brick tower, which starts from a square base and becomes octagonal at the waist. Inside it is already empty, the stairs and levels have already disappeared. The tower received the "Treasure of Somogyszág" recognition in 2011! The Coragotic church ruin located in the Ihász vineyard can also be found in the coat of arms of Somogyvámos. This place offers a wonderful experience in every season, it is worth coming here!
